PACE Canada LP has proposed a 21.6MW utility-scale photovoltaic solar farm within the urban boundaries of Killam, Alberta. The proposed project would be built on 109 acres of cultivated land and the electricity produced will be connected to the FORTIS distribution network 25 kV which connects to the wider electricity grid through Sedgewick 137S.
The project is designed to include 42,024 bi-facial photovoltaic poly-silicon solar panels at 540Wp, and 6 SMA MV, 3650 kW inverters. The solar panels would be south-southwest facing and installed at a 29-degree angle on single-axis tracking supported by steel piles driven into the ground. The project would also include an access road, a small parking area for construction and a temporary laydown and storage area. The project area would be secured and enclosed with a six-foot chain link security fence with access points for maintenance and emergency response.

The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), the independent utilities regulator, will be considering the Solar PV Plant application in Proceeding 28643. The hearing will begin on November 12, 2024, at 9 a.m. and will continue until November 15, 2024.
