AUC wins the 2023 CAMPUT Award for Innovation and Leadership

The AUC has been named the winner of the 2023 Canada’s Energy and Utility (CAMPUT) Award for Innovation and Leadership for its red tape reduction and process streamlining initiatives.

The award recognizes significant and innovative contributions by CAMPUT member tribunals, for improvements in energy and public utility regulation in Canada. The award program contributes to CAMPUT’s vision of regulatory excellence in Canada, by sharing and learning from each tribunal’s successes.

The AUC continues to change and adapt to improve its work and become an increasingly effective and efficient regulator. We remain committed to ongoing regulatory enhancement, process improvements and streamlining.

The AUC has focused on reducing red tape, improving regulatory efficiency and reducing regulatory burden since 2019, with notable results over the last three years. Results have been achieved through committed efforts of individuals at all levels throughout the Commission, under the leadership of AUC Chair Carolyn Dahl Rees.

Since 2019 the AUC has achieved a 48.2 per cent reduction in red tape. The regulatory requirements set out in the AUC rules are approximately half of what they were. The AUC has saved a cumulative 31,629 days of regulatory process time against benchmarks and saved nearly $12 million for industry and ratepayers. Millions of dollars more in reduced costs have been passed on through reduced or refunded administration fees.
